About Fairview

Fairview was settled in 1859 by James N. Jones and about twenty Mormon families from Mt. Pleasant to the south. A few years later many families moved back to Mt. Pleasant after a few men were killed during the Black Hawk Indian war. But by 1880 the population had grown to over 1000 and after Rio Grande railroad came through, the population reached 1700. As of the year 2000, the population stood at 1160.

Fairview lies at the north end of Sanpete Valley, at the mouth of beautiful Fairview Canyon. The grass-covered valley slopes gradually downward to the south, where it widens out considerably, and to the north, a narrow arm of it slopes upward into the hills. Imposing, forested mountains rise to the east with scenic drives, hiking and other recreational opportunities.
