Joe and Inez Berger
Hardware's Friendly Couple

Joseph A. Berger, with his wife, Inez, operated the Hardware Ranch for
the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources from 1952 until Joe's retirement in
1969. Both elk and people were their charges and their life; they thrilled at
both.

The Bergers made the Ranch an enjoyable place to visit. Their enthusiams
and dedication to the public encouraged visitations to increase from a handful
to nearly 50,000 annually. Joe's management of the Ranch resulted in its
recognition as the Division's "Outstanding Installation" on two separate occasions.

The Friendly smiles and hospitality of Joe and Inez will live for years in the
hearts of Ranch visitors--perhaps the elk share such sentiments!
