Birds, Seeds and
Clusters of Trees

You are looking at the
tree that this trail is
named for. The cluster of
limber pines in front of
this sign are about 560
years old! Why do you
think these trees grew so
close together?

The Clark's nutcracker
collects and stores limber
pine seeds. The seeds are
buried for later use. Some
of the seeds are forgotten
and germinate.
Sometimes, single trees
will grow from the
forgotten seed, other
times, several seedlings
will occur together, such
as those we see here.

FOOTNOTE Question:
Besides the big limber
pine, can you find other examples of several
seedlings that are growing very close together?
